Right, what’s all this then?

Welcome to my blog. I can not guarantee that you won’t be bored, or that the material will be of any interest to you whatsoever. It is simply intended to be a random collection of my thoughts and comments on technology, social media, social issues, teh internets, humor, books, anthropology, archaeology, culture (or lack thereof), science, history, society, food, travel and who the heck knows what else. If you are easily offended, this is not the place for you. If you are willfully ignorant and think a Google search constitutes scholarly research, this is not the place for you.

Who am I? I am a Foreign Service Specialist.  I have a BA in history (specializing in medieval and Tudor history), a MS in library science and a mount of student loans to prove both as well as the fancy bits of paper.  My husband is in the military so I have had to change jobs every couple years since we married.  I’ve worked in administration, purchasing, information technology, public services, social media and business analytic services.  I’ve been employed in a variety of industries: healthcare, state and federal government, manufacturing, consulting and marketing.  While it has sucked that I’ve had to switch jobs so frequently, it’s also meant that I’ve built up a pretty robust and varied skillset.  Thankfully now that I’m in the Foreign Service I will no longer have to switch employers every couple years.  Just locations.  My husband hopes to join as information management specialist when he gets out of the military.

I question things, I do not “repost if I agree” and I do not “forward to everyone I know.” I don’t believe chain email or status posts, or blindly follow any political party’s rhetoric. I question things, I seek out facts. I am an atheist, mostly following Buddhist philosophy and I believe in evolutionary science and have the knowledge to understand the SCIENCE behind it. I am obsessed with my slow cooker, and my Greek heritage has provided some sort of gene that makes me constantly try to feed people nummy food. I have an awesome son, an amazing husband, and I lost my sweet little daughter to a genetic disorder called Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1. (If you are looking for a good charity to donate to, Google “Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy,” they’re marvelous). We live in the Baltimore/DC Area and love it. Except the traffic, it’s absolutely dreadful. We like to go camping, to museums, to ethnic and cultural events. I have nothing against people of any religion as long as they don’t try to push it on others and demonize others if they adhere to different beliefs. I don’t believe that a lack of religion = a lack of morals.

What kind of stuff to I like? Facts. Science. Pop Culture. The Arts. I like shows such as Big Bang Theory, Black Books, NCIS, Are You Being Served?, Monty Python, Doctor Who, Good Eats, Red Dwarf, Ancients Behaving Badly, Weeds and I hate reality shows, not fond of game shows either. I like comedies, action flicks, some chick flicks, and some sci-fi and fantasy. I love Star Wars but not Star Trek. I love to read, I read fast and read constantly. All sorts of stuff. Historical fiction, non fiction, thrillers, humorous chick lit, and more. Among the non fiction I like biographies, medical stuff (particularly on viruses and that type of stuff), anthropology, archaeology, history, technology, science. I like learning stuff, analyzing and expanding my horizons.

Also my personal views do not represent the official views of the U.S. Government.
